Bill Burton Fishing Pier State Park
Crab, fish or stroll along what was the original bridge across the Choptank River. Bill Burton Fishing Pier State Park is in two sections, with an opening in the middle where boats pass through. Part of the pier is accessible from the Dorchester County and Cambridge (eastern) side of the Malkus Bridge; the other part is accessible from the Talbot County and Trappe (western) side of the bridge. Crabbing and fishing licenses are required. The half-mile Dorchester section of the pier is lighted and welcome visitors 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The piers provide excellent fishing that includes perch, striped bass, croaker, sea trout, and catfish. Visitors can also enjoy crabbing, biking, walking, and jogging on the piers. The piers are also a great place to observe local waterfowl, such as osprey and geese. (Sorry, pets are not allowed on the piers.) Port-a-pots are available on the pier. It’s a short walk from the Dorchester sid of the fishing pier to the Dorchester Visitor Center by way of a riverside boardwalk.
