Gulf State Park Fishing Pier
The Gulf State Park was established in May 20, 1939. This is one of the first five parks to be created in Alabama. This park was first managed by Mr. Henly who have made a great contribution in making its park facilities available. In 1942 until 1975, Mr. Monroe Mccloud serve as the Park Superintendent. He managed the construction of an 825-foot saltwater fishing pier in 1968 in addition to adding extra cabins. The pier has weathered several disasters, including the Hurricane Frederic in 1979 and Hurricane Ivan in 2004. However, the pier was rebuilt and still serves as one of the most popular assets of the park. Mr. Hugh Branyon is the new park superintendent and serve for almost 30 years. As of now, the Pier was damaged in Hurricane Sally but it is currently open past the halfway point. The restrooms and fillet table are still available. The pier will undergo reconstruction, but it will not be closed.
