Sebastian Inlet Jetty, FL : 7/7/2024- Snook Hitting Crabs
I was very surprised to see snook crunching down on live crabs while at Sebastian Inlet this past weekend. Fisherman were either bringing in their own crabs or using a castnet to scoop free swimming crabs. Live fish were also producing, but had to be large size. For Sebastian Inlet the outgoing tide can be very productive, but becomes more of a combat fishing situation where everyone is congregated at the end of the jetty. With the organized chaos you would cast at the back of the line then free spool walking forwards as the tide pulled out the live baits. Once you either hooked up or ran out of line then you reel up and get to the back of the line to start again. Many fish were lost because of lines getting tangled this method.
Instead of fighting the crowds we suggest going at an incoming to high tide. Then the entire jetty can be fished on both sides and everyone can spread out. Cast out about 15 feet and let the bait sink down. The strike will be aggressive. Be aware of the Goliath Groupers taking their tax. Big shout out to Patrick for providing some local knowledge and Chris for sharing some Floro.
